Global Frontrunner City Program

Global Frontrunner City Program

This initiative launched by the World Urban Pavilion, a global knowledge, innovation and solutions hub, supported by the Government of Canada, UN-Habitat and Daniels Corporation, aims to support cities to take ownership of the future of urbanization and its people.
The Initiative aims to create conditions for the city to excel in various development areas by providing technical and substantive advice, identifying financial means, and establishing critical and strategic partnerships. All this to prepare the city for a quantitative and qualitative change: a big transformation based on a value chain that connects smart urban data to strategic planning to decision making and to the creation of transformative actions at the community and neighborhood level, opening new opportunities for positive change at the city level.
The Global Frontrunner City Program works with Mayors and City Councilors and other tiers of government and development partners, understanding that local actors play a critical role in the process of transformation. Through their leadership and strategic vision, they can build the necessary consensus for city change, revaluing city assets and resources, reinvigorating the planning of the city and its wards, and helping to identify the most important actions for transformation. They can do this by building networks, promoting the city’s opportunities, and understanding local constraints and situations of the communities.
The Mayor and City Councilors, along with the City Manager, are crucial to prioritize and strengthen urban resources and identifying new funding opportunities, making sure that a visionary planning is efficiently and impactfully executed for a common good.
The Glocal Platform for Urban Finance is a fundamental component of the Frontrunner City Initiative bringing a unique component of local finance and the exploration and use of new financial products.
